E.Candela lives and works in Toronto, Ontario. Originally from northern British Columbia, she is familiar with and fascinated by the north and how North defines her history and that of the country she belongs to. As an artist, her subject matter works with ideas around a re-constructed Canadian mythology, history, and identity.
Candela works with historical text, postcards, and other documents of canadiana to develop her images. Taking from archival documents, such as photographs, or building imagery from imagined scenarios, characters and animals inhabit a weird and fantastic landscape that shares the same territory as our own home and native land.
