E.Candela lives and works in Montreal, Quebec. Originally from northern British Columbia, she is familiar with and fascinated by the north and how North defines her history and that of the country she belongs to. As an artist, her subject matter addresses the issue of a constructed Canadian mythology, history, and identity.
Candela works with historical text, postcards, and other documents of canadiana to develope her images. Viewers will recognize various interpretations of an often playfully nostalgic, but sometimes somewhat disturbing northern experience.
